History:
Established in 2007, ZLS Publishing is an award-winning Independent Publisher located in Albany, NY.ZLS Publishing is an Independent Publisher. This means we are not owned or operated by any of the “Big Six.” As the only major publisher located in the Capital Region, we do Traditional Publishing, Self-Publishing, and have a Print-Only Service. Our Philosophy:Our publishing philosophy is “We Create Better” to achieve the professional, elegant or creative style that each book deserves. As a no-template zone, we specialize in making sure that we may not be the biggest, but we are the best and every book that comes out of our office represents that.

We are the #1 book publishing company located in Albany, NY. We were awarded Publisher of the Month January 2010 by the award-winning magazine From A Writer’s Point of View.
2) We Do Everything:
We are a hybrid. We do Traditional Publishing, Self-Publishing, E-Publishing and Print-Only. All of our services come with distribution. ZLS Publishing is an Independent Publisher. This means we are not owned or operated by any of the Big Six. Our specialities include children’s books, sci-fi paranormal, political books, horror and murder/mystery books. These specialities fall under the Traditional Publishing arm. This means there is no cost to the author to have their book developed and published. We also have a print-only imprint and a self-publishing imprint as well.
3) We Use Quality Products:
While other companies use products like Microsoft Word to format books and publish books, we use top of the line book publishing software. We stay up to date on the latest book publishing software using products such as Adobe. Microsoft Word is NOT appropriate software to use for books as it is not publishing software and we don’t believe that our authors should be cheated by using products that won’t give them the best look.
4) Our Model:
Our model is unique. Whether self-publishing or print-only, ZLS matches each book with our appropriate imprint based on a distribution strategy or marketing strategy. Our model is versatile, so as the industry changes we are able to change with it and do so in a way that does not hurt the author.
5) The Service:
While our competitors take two-six weeks to even get a proof, we can have a proof 2-3 days after we have received the manuscript and it’s been confirmed that it is up to our standards. We use Adobe Software only and put each manuscript through a thorough test before sending it to the printer. Once to the printer, a proof can be received two-three days after manuscript acceptance. After proof has been received and approved, books are immediately available for ordering.
6) The Books Look:
Because we have a traditional book publishing line, our self-publishing authors and print-only authors can know that the quality of their books will match the big publishers production quality.
7) The Rights:
We allow self-published authors and print-only authors the right to retain full publication rights while still offering editorial, design and production quality that often beats big publishing houses. We do not lock our self-published or print-only clients contractually for any specified time, so they have the freedom to go elsewhere. Self-published and print-only clients own their work and navigate their careers on their own terms.
The Customer Service: Here at ZLS, all authors who do business with us gets to either talk to the CEO or meet with the CEO. In the event that there is ever an issue, authors can call the CEO directly. With other companies, all you get to speak with is the representative who is working on your book project. Here, we believe that authors should know the folks who are working on their project, even those at the top.
9) Royalties: Unlike LULU or CreateSpace because the author pays for self-publishing services upfront we don’t take royalty payments from their paperback or hardcover books. What they sell is what they keep minus any printing cost. Distribution is optional.
10) Coaching: We provide book coaching assistance to our self-published authors free of charge. We provide them with tips and resources on how to do well in their publishing endeavors. Other self-publishing companies just publish and print the authors book providing them with no resources and assistance in helping them do well.
